ABOUT THE RESIDENTS

Through a public call, artists Agustina Arrillaga Vodanovich, Maya Krtić and Krešimir Perić were selected for the residency. During their stay, the residents will develop their individual projects with production, professional and curatorial support, and will present the results of their work to the public as part of the residency’s final programme.

Agustina Arrillaga Vodanovich (1997) is a Croatian-Uruguayan visual artist and experimental filmmaker. She graduated in Audiovisual Media from Universidad del Trabajo del Uruguay and completed a seminar in Contemporary Art and Culture at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in Spain. She is currently studying archival science at Universidad del Trabajo del Uruguay. Her artistic practice explores themes of memory, identity and migration through experimental and analogue formats, primarily film and photography.

To date, she has participated in a number of residency and mentoring programmes,

including Ment-Art (Erasmus+ programme, Spain/Croatia, 2025) and the workshop Keep the Dream Burning – Fekk DoKKu (Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2025). She also designs and leads film workshops for children and young people. Her work has been presented at festivals and exhibitions across Latin America, Europe, Asia and the United States. She lives and works between Slovenia and Croatia.

Maya Krtić (1994) is a visual artist of Croatian descent. She holds a degree in architecture from The Cooper Union, Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture in New York, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Malmö Art Academy in Sweden. Through analogue photography and interdisciplinary projects, she explores the concepts of time and light, as well as the relationship between the real and the imaginary, while the landscape of Makarska is often a point of departure for her artistic practice. She has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions in the United States and Sweden, including at KHM 1 in Malmö, Vox Populi in Philadelphia, and AFA in Scranton, Pennsylvania. In 2017, she participated in the Whitney Biennial at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. She is the recipient of numerous grants and awards. She currently works as an artistic assistant to Carla Zaccagnini.

Krešimir Perić (1997) graduated in Conservation and Restoration of Artworks from the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb. During his studies, he worked in painting and developed an interest in film and animation. In 2024, he completed a programme at the PISMO gaming incubator in Novska. In his practice, he combines traditional media such as painting and drawing with new technologies, drawing on motifs from his native region as well as natural and seascape environments. More recently, he has been exploring the possibilities of experimental film and sound. For the film In the Land of Eternal Summer, created in collaboration with Martina Gucić, he received the Best Experimental Film Award at the 2025

Amateur Film Festival. His short experimental film Shinkolobwe (2026) was screened at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb and at the Kinoteka of Kinoklub Zagreb. He is currently engaged in animation and the production of audiovisual projects. He lives and works in Zagreb.

ABOUT THE RESIDENCY

The fourth edition of the artist residency aims to foster contemporary artistic creation and production, while supporting the development of artistic projects through an interdisciplinary and research-based approach. In doing so, it seeks to increase the visibility of contemporary art in smaller communities and encourage dialogue between artists and the local community. This year’s residency is organised in partnership with HULU Split, specifically its Curatorial Section. The programme focuses on photography, film and media art, while the theme “Between the Documentary and the Experimental” explores the possibilities of photography and related media across the spectrum from documentary representation to experimental artistic practices. The residency programme is closely connected with the exhibition “A Life in Photography: The Work of Nikša Antonini (1956–1996)”, dedicated to the Makarska-based photojournalist and his extensive photographic oeuvre, which spans the fields of documentary and experimental photography.

RESIDENCY CURATOR

Dora Baras graduated in Comparative Literature and Art History from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb, earning her Master’s degree at the Department of Film Studies. She works as an independent film scholar, film selector, visual arts curator, editor and author of professional publications, cultural producer, screenwriter, director and lecturer. She maintains ongoing collaborations with a range of cultural and educational institutions in Split and Zagreb, as well as with cultural, artistic and civil society organisations.

RESIDENCY COORDINATOR

Josipa Balajić holds a Master’s degree in Pedagogy and Art History from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Split, which she completed in 2022. During her studies, she participated in organising the exhibition programme of HULU Split and the 41st Split Salon. Following graduation, she furthered her professional training through an Erasmus+ traineeship at Ravnikar Gallery Space in Ljubljana. She has been collaborating with the Makarska Town Museum since 2023 and has coordinated the artist residency project since very beginning.
