About us

The City Museum of Makarska was founded in 1995 and is located on the first floor of the baroque Tonoli Palace, built in the second half of the 18th century. It follows the legacy of earlier museum bodies, namely the Museum of the National Liberation War of the Biokovo Region (1962), the Museum of the Revolution, and the Homeland Museum of the Makarska Coast. The museum houses ten collections. The collections of the City Museum of Makarska include: Archaeological Collection, Ethnographic Collection, Numismatic Collection, Cultural-Historical Collection, Photography Collection, Postcard Collection, Poster Collection, Map Collection, the Gojak Donation Collection, and the Contemporary Authors Collection. The components of the City Museum of Makarska are the Antun Gojak Gallery and the Veliki Kaštel Interpretation Center in Kotišina.
