Experimental Photography
Nikša Antonini also contributed to the exploration of the photographic medium. Experimental photographs mark the beginning of his career – they were created spontaneously during the process of developing and processing negatives, as well as through experiments with double exposure and other photographic techniques.
Accidental Photos
Accidental Photos is a unique photo series in Antonini’s oeuvre. They were created – as their title suggests – by chance, when negatives were left in the developing solution for too long. Antonini decided to keep them and continued to experiment by refining this technique and controlling the “mistakes,” aided by his strong knowledge of photographic technology and the development process. The self-portraits and everyday motifs in those photos, which under other circumstances would not have been developed, transform into surreal, distorted, and warped forms, “eaten away” by chemicals.
